Iranian Quran Memorizer Practicing Constantly to Prepare for Malaysia Int’l Contest
He will be the first Iranian to compete in the memorization category of the contest’s 64th edition.
Until last year, Iran was only invited to send a qari to take part in the recitation category but this year, the country will have representatives in both recitation and memorization.
Iran’s other contender, Hamid Reza Nasiri, will be competing in the recitation category.
Zahedi told IQNA that the competition will have two rounds, with the first round slated to be organized in early June virtually and the successful contenders making it to the finals scheduled for October in Kuala Lumpur.
He said he has the experience of participating in international Quran contests in the United Arab Emirates and Kyrgyzstan.
The recitation category of the Malaysia contest is similar to those organized in Arab countries but it is still necessary to learn about the regulations of the Malaysia event for better preparation, he added.
Zahed also noted the contenders qualifying for the final round of competition are all at a high level in memorization skills.
The memorizer of the entire Quran stressed that his daily practicing for successful participation in the contest will continue and that he will also benefit from the expertise of Quran masters like Saeed Hajian and Mahmoud Norouzi.

Malaysia’s international Quran competition, officially known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), has been annually organized in the country’s capital of Kuala Lumpur since 1961.
A total of 76 representatives from 52 countries competed in two categories of Quran recitation and memorization in the 63rd edition in August 2023.
