The closing ceremony of the competition, officially known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), was held here in the Malaysian capital on Thursday.
According to the panel of judges, the representative of the host country bagged the top prize in the recitation category.
Iran’s representative Alireza Bijani, who was the favorite to win the top award in this category, finished runner-up and the representative of Brunei came third.
A total of 76 representatives from 52 countries competed in two categories of Quran recitation and memorization in separate sections for men and women.
Twenty-four men and 12 women competed in the recitation category in the evenings, and 27 men and 13 women in the memorization category held in the mornings.
All the events were broadcast live from the social media accounts of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
