He made the remark in a TV interview, speaking about his Quranic life, Al-Ahram reported.

Nuaina said his father, who was a cotton trader, had memorized the Quran and encouraged him to learn the Quran by heart as well.

“I memorized the Quran in a Maktab (traditional Quran school) and received a memorization certificate from my teacher Umm Saad in Alexandria,” he stated.

Nuaina said former Egyptian president Anwar Sadat praised his recitation and compared it to that of Sheikh Mustafa Ismail.

Nuaina, who is a doctor by profession, said he used to be President Sadat's personal physician.

He said he was a student and fan of Sheikh Mutawalli al-Shaarawi, a great Egyptian Quran interpreter and preacher, and that Shaarawi would always commend his recitation of the Quran.

Born in 1954 in the town of Matubas in Kafr El Sheikh governorate, Nuaina started learning the Quran at a traditional Quran school at the age of 3.

He managed to memorize the entire Quran at 8 and continued to learn the rules of Tajweed and Quran recitation.

While at university, he gained mastery over the ten styles of Quran recitation and in 1979 became an official Qari of Egypt’s national TV and radio.

He follows the recitation styles of such masters as Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Abulainain Shuaisha, Minshawi, Hisri and others.
