IQNA – Egypt’s Minister of Religious Endowments has appointed Ahmed Ahmed Nuaina as the Sheikh al-Qurra (Chief Reciter) of Egypt.

In the official decree, Minister Osama al-Azhari recognized Nuaina’s more than half a century of service to the Quran.

Al-Azhari praised Sheikh Nuaina’s lifelong dedication to Quran recitation and instruction, describing him as an exemplar of mastery, humility and decorum who has inspired generations of reciters in Egypt and throughout the Muslim world.

In response, Nuaina expressed his gratitude for the appointment and prayed for success and sincerity in fulfilling the responsibilities of this prominent role.

The minister also announced the reconstitution of the Supreme Council for Recitation within the ministry as part of efforts to develop Quranic initiatives and better organize Egypt’s recitation centers.

The decree states that the council, chaired by the minister, will include:

  • Qari Dr. Ahmed Ahmed Nuaina, Sheikh al-Qurra of Egypt
  • Sheikh Abdul Fattah Taruti, Deputy Sheikh al-Qurra
  • Sheikh Mahmoud Muhammad Hassan al-Khesht, Deputy Sheikh al-Qurra

Ahmed Nuaina was born in 1954 in Matubas, Kafr al-Sheikh. He completed memorization of the entire Quran by the age of eight and later pursued medical studies at Alexandria University, serving in hospitals there.
