The Iranian Cultural Center in Manila organized the contest in line with efforts to develop Quranic diplomacy.
Fifteen qaris from different parts of the city took part in the competition, held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the Islamic Unity Week.
Saad Davud, Qamareddin Abdul Jabbar and Salman Dimaru came first to third, respectively.
Four senior local Quran experts, namely Jasim Haji Davud, Ahmed Matanuk, Ahmad Muqami and Mohammed Abdullah Asghar were the members of the arbiters’ panel, evaluating the performances of the contenders in the fields of Tajweed, Tarteel, Sawt and Lahn.
In an address to the awarding ceremony, Iranian Cultural Attaché Abdolmajid Abolqassemi said the Holy Quran is the book of peace and can play an important role in creating peace.
He hoped that recitation of verses of the Quran will spread peace and unity among Muslims all over the world.
