Malaysian male qari Muhammad Husaini Mahmur and female qari Nor Hidayah Abdul Rahman were crowned champions at the 64th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) held at the World Trade Centre.
Muhammad Husaini Mahmur secured first place in the recitation category with a score of 95.71 percent. Abdur Rasheed from Pakistan and Wahyu Andi Saputra from Indonesia took second and third places, respectively.
In the female category, Nor Hidayah Abdul Rahman emerged as the champion with a score of 91.76 percent, followed by Raihana Ambangaladi from the Philippines and Syamimi Assahira from Indonesia.
In the men's memorization category, Oubaydullah Boubacar Ango from Niger clinched the top spot with a score of 97.63 percent. Ibrahim Sow from Ivory Coast and Aeimiddin Farkhudinov from Russia followed in second and third places.
In the women's memorization category, Habsatou Hamissou Boubacar from Niger took first place with a score of 96.13 percent, with Putri Aminah Mohd Hanif from Malaysia and Fathimah Shaya Zahir from the Maldives in second and third places.
Winners in both the recitation and memorization categories received cash prizes of RM40,000 from the government, gold bars worth RM12,000 from the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM), along with additional prizes and certificates.
The 64th MTHQA, organized by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), featured 92 participants from 71 countries.
The event's assessment focused on tajweed, fasahah (fluency), voice quality, and memorization accuracy, with judges from various countries including Morocco, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia.
