The closing ceremony of the contest was held at the presidential palace in Ankara Wednesday night.
It was officiated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Winners of the two categories, namely recitation of the Quran and memorization of the Holy Quran were awarded and given certificates of honor by Erdogan at the ceremony.
In recitation, the qari from the host country won the top prize. Seyed Parsa Angoshtan from Iran came in second and the representative of Afghanistan came in third.
In memorization of the entire Quran, Iran’s Milad Asheghi finished runner-up while memorizers from Bangladesh and Malaysia won the first and third ranks, respectively.
The competition was held in two rounds. In the preliminary round, held in June, representatives of 93 countries submitted recorded videos of their recitations to the organizing committee. After evaluation of the files by the panel of arbiters, qairs and memorizers from 47 countries made it to the finals.
