IQNA – The northwestern city of Tabriz is hosting the final stage of Iran’s 47th National Quran Competition, starting in a ceremony on Monday morning.

The final stage of Iran’s 47th National Quran Competition got underway in Tabriz on December 2, 2024.

The ceremony began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by renowned qari Saeed Parvizi, and then Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Shahabeddin Hosseini, director general of the Awqaf department of the East Azarbaijan Province, took the podium.

He offered condolences on the anniversary of Hazrat Zahra’s (SA) martyrdom and described hosting the Quranic competition as a source of honor for the city, which has introduced a number of top scholars of the Shia world, including interpreter of the Quran Allameh Seyed Mohammad Hossein Tabatabai.

Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad Motahariasl, representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the province, also addressed the ceremony, highlighting the divine reward for the youths who recite the Quran.

He also underlined how important it is for parents to teach the Quran to their children and instill in them the love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

The competition, which began earlier this year, featured multiple stages, including local, provincial, and national preliminary rounds.

While the initial stages included both in-person and video-based submissions for judging, the final stage has brought nation’s top qaris and memorizers together for an in-person competition.

The finalists include participants from the men’s and women’s categories, as well as competitors under the age of 18, across various disciplines such as recitation, memorization, supplication reading, and the call to prayer.

This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of the “Martyrs of Service,” including former President Ebrahim Raisi and his companions, who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in May.

Winners of the competition will represent Iran in international Quranic events around the world.
