Sri Lanka Contest Aims to Encourage Adherence to Quran’s Teachings

IQNA – The final round of Sri Lanka’s second nationwide Quran memorization competition will be held today, January 19, in Colombo, the capital.

The competitions has been organized by the Saudi ministry of Islamic affairs, Dawah and guidance  as part of efforts to support domestic and international Quranic activities.

Enhancing the memorization of the Quran among young people, encouraging them to adhere to its teachings, instilling Quranic awareness in society, promoting values based on moderation, and boosting cultural and religious relations are among the stated goals of holding the contest.

The preliminary stage was held on December 28 and 29, 2024, across 24 provinces of Sri Lanka, with 1,900 male and female participants from all over the country taking part.

Out of these, 400 individuals advanced to the final stage.

The competition features several categories: memorization of the entire Quran for ages 15 to 23, memorization of the first 10 Juzes (parts) of the QUran for ages 12 to 20, memorization of the first 5 Juzes for ages 10 to 15, and memorization of the last Juz for ages 7 to 12.

This competition has been received well by various groups in the Sri Lankan Muslim community, including students from religious centers, university activists, and members from different organizations, Quranic schools, and mosques.
