Speaking to IQNA, Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Reza Deryati said one of the reasons for the high level in the memorization category has been the screening of participants in the preliminary stage.
In this selection process, individuals with a lower level of memorization skills were eliminated, and the stronger candidates advanced to the final stage, he noted.
In the final round, most of the participants made no mistakes and received full marks for their memorization skills, thus the competition level has been good, he stated.
Hojat-ol-Islam Deryati, himself a memorizer of the entire Holy Quran, further spoke about the countries that have a higher level compared to others in this competition, saying that most countries have performed well in this regard.
“In our own country, this high quality level has been evident, and it's clear that the standard of memorization has significantly improved compared to the past. Alongside Iran, countries like Tunisia and Libya, as well as one or two other countries, have also performed well.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, he mentioned the hosting of competition in the city of Mashhad and said, “Mashhad has hosted these competitions once before. I was part of the judging panel during that time, and we were not satisfied with how the events were organized then.”
He went on to say that in this contest, however, more measures have been considered, and the hosting of these competitions in Mashhad has been satisfactory this year.
“We can consider hosting this event again in future years with better and more extensive preparations,” he concluded.
Quran reciters and memorizers from 144 countries took part in the preliminary round of Iran’s 41st International Holy Quran Competition and from among them, representatives of 27 countries have made it to the finals in the men and women sections.
The finals, underway in the northeastern hoy city of Mashhad, will wrap up on Friday in a closing ceremony where top winners will be named and awarded.
The International Holy Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran is annually organized by the country’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization.
It aims to promote the Quranic culture and values among Muslims and showcase the talents of Quran reciters and memorizers.
