IQNA – An international Quran recitation session was held in the city of Basra, Iraq, to welcome the holy month of Ramadan.

An international Quran recitation session was held in the city of Basra, Iraq, to welcome Ramadan 2025.

 

The Dar-ol-Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine cooperated in organizing the Quranic event.

A large number of people took part in the Quran recitation program, according to Ali al-Batat, head of the center’s branch in Qarnah, Basra.

He said it marked the beginning of the Quranic programs and activities of Ramadan.

Hamid Moqaddasi from Iran and Maytham Tammar from Iraq were among the top qaris reciting the Quran at the session, he stated.

There were also religious speeches by senior clerics Sheikh Assad al-Mayahi and Sheikh Abdul Basit al-Sahlani, he noted.

In another part of the program, the Thaqalayn group, affiliated to the branch in Qarnah, performed a religious program, al-Batat went on to say.

The Astan also plans to organize Khatm Quran (reading the Quran from beginning to end) sessions at the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala and in the branches of the Astan’s Dar-ol-Quran Center’s in 16 governorates of Iraq during Ramadan.
