IQNA – Muslims should not only pay attention to the Quran in appearance but also adhere to its profound principles and purposes in practice, a Yemeni scholar said.

Yemeni scholar Sayed Fadhl al-Sharafi speaking at the 32nd Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition.

Sayed Fadhl al-Sharafi made the remark in a speech at the 32nd Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition.

He was addressing a forum on “Movement for Dialogue among the Youth of the Islamic World”, held at the expo on Saturday evening.

The cleric underlined the need for Muslims to adhere to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

He referred to the holy month of Ramadan and said it is a month in which the Holy Quran was revealed to guide people.

He said events like the International Quran Exhibition in Tehran, which aims to promote the outward aspects of the Quran and its teachings, are examples of attention to the Quran.

However, it is essential to focus on the content of the Quran and its profound messages, he said.

The religious scholar emphasized the importance of memorizing and reciting the Quran properly, as well as the significance of its printing and calligraphy.

Al-Sharafi noted that while these efforts represent a valuable formal attention to the Quran, it is equally important to address the meanings and deeper objectives of the text.

He criticized societies that appear to pay attention to the Quran but, in practice, stray from its principles. For instance, he mentioned terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), which, while claiming to promote the Quran, are involved in brutal crimes such as the massacre of Muslims in Yemen and other Islamic countries.

He further said the Quran contains significant objectives, such as Jihad in the path of God, and it is essential to pay special attention to these concepts.

He went on to say that attention to the Quran should be balanced and simultaneous with both its outward aspects and its content, so that Muslims can properly benefit from it and achieve its main objectives.

The International Holy Quran Exhibition is underway at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla in Tehran on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
