The threat, allegedly issued from a fraudulent online profile linked to Miami, Florida, prompted swift action from the mosque's leadership.
According to Cape Town Etc, the message, which included claims of an intention to attack the mosque and harm worshippers, was sent to Sheikh Ismail Keraan on Sunday evening.
Igshaan Higgens, the mosque’s public relations officer, discussed the incident in an interview with Radio 786, confirming that the mosque has lodged a formal complaint with the police. Authorities have since assured that the case is being handled as a matter of high priority.

Baadier Gamieldien, a member of the mosque’s executive committee, voiced deep concern over the threat, emphasizing that the safety of all congregants remains the committee's foremost priority. He stated, “It goes without saying that the safety of all Musalees is our top priority. We therefore urge everyone, including those attending other Masaajied, to be extra vigilant and stay aware of your surroundings.”
In response, the mosque, in coordination with its madrassa, has implemented enhanced security protocols. Gamieldien encouraged the broader community to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals or behavior to mosque officials or local law enforcement.

While addressing safety measures, the mosque also reiterated its stance of solidarity with the Palestinian people — a message often echoed by South African Muslim communities. Gamieldien concluded his statement by expressing hope for justice, saying, “We ask our RABB to grant the people of Palestine, as well as all oppressed people around the globe, ease the plight they have to endure at the hands of their occupiers and their allies, and bestow triumph and victory upon them, Insha-ALLAH.”
