According to the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, the procedure is part of routine preparations to welcome pilgrims during the 1446 AH Hajj season.

The process involves folding and securing the lower portion of the Kiswah, lifting it to a height of three meters, and covering the exposed area with a white cotton cloth approximately two meters wide.

This annual tradition is carried out to prevent the Kiswah from being touched or damaged during the pilgrimage, especially as large numbers of worshippers perform Tawaf (the ritual of circling the Kaaba).
