IQNA – A Yemeni academic says Iran’s recent response to Israeli aggression is consistent with the Quran’s teachings on self-defense and resistance against oppression.

Dr. Abdelmalek Mohammad Isa, professor of political sociology at Sana'a University, told IQNA that Iran's actions in the face of Israeli attacks reflect Islamic principles rooted in the Quran. “Iran’s response is fully in line with the Holy Quran, which commands self-defense and resistance against injustice and tyranny,” he said.

Quoting verse 190 of Surah Al-Baqarah, Dr. Isa emphasized: “‘Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not like transgressors.’” He also cited Surah Ash-Shura, verse 41: “‘And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they defend themselves—there is no blame upon them.’”

“These verses clearly establish that defending the oppressed against aggressors is a right guaranteed by Islamic law,” Dr. Isa explained. “The Quran simultaneously rejects surrender or submission to injustice. Islam encourages steadfastness, awareness, and measured response to aggression.”

The comments come as Iran is using the right of self-defense after the Israeli regime launched a surprised armed attack against the country on June 13, targeting residential and military areas, assassinating a host of military commanders and nuclear scientists.

As the Israeli strikes continues, the Iranian armed forces have launched Operation True Promise III, targeting the regime's military infrastructure using drones and missiles.

The Yemeni professor also invoked Article 51 of the UN Charter, which recognizes the inherent right of nations to self-defense in the event of armed attack until the Security Council takes necessary measures.

According to Dr. Isa, the duty of Muslims and global advocates of justice goes beyond verbal condemnation. “A comprehensive practical stance is necessary,” he urged, listing four key measures: “First, imposing political and economic sanctions on the occupying regime. Second, providing financial and moral support to resistance forces, who are the front line in defending the dignity of the ummah. Third, mobilizing global public opinion through media and legal platforms to expose the crimes of the occupying regime. Fourth, uniting the positions of people and political and religious elites in rejecting all forms of normalization and complicity with the Zionist regime.”

“He who remains silent in the face of injustice is complicit in it. A truly human position is to stand with the oppressed, not with the killer under false pretenses,” he added.
