Major General Amir Hatami held a meeting in Tehran with visiting Chief of the South African National Defense Force General Rudzani Maphwanya.
General Amir Hatami stated that the two countries, based on an anti-colonial, anti-arrogance, and justice-seeking approach, have many political commonalities, especially in the international arena.
He said Iran and South Africa have always supported each other and oppressed nations, and this path to return to the international system based on justice and human dignity must continue.
Referring to the South African government’s brave stance against the Zionist regime’s genocide and filing a complaint against the regime in the International Court of Justice, he considered this a courageous action that will remain in history.
Stating that today the oppressed people of Gaza need practical support from governments and international institutions, he added, “Unfortunately, with the influence of America and some other Western powers, this support is more verbal than practical, and on this basis, the crimes of this regime continue with intensity.|
He also said the Israeli regime and the United States violated international regulations during their recent aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and used all their might to strike the Islamic Republic. “Not only did they fail to achieve their goals, but their defeat in the face of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s missile attacks forced them to call for a ceasefire.”
General Hatami further said that in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the African continent is a priority, and naturally, with the close political and international approach of the two countries, South Africa has a special position.
General Maphwanya, for his part, delivered his greetings and those of South Africa’s president and minister of defense to the Iranian nation.

He said South Africa and the Islamic Republic of Iran have common goals and always stand with the oppressed and defenseless of the world.
“I express my sympathy with the people of Gaza and Palestine, who are being bombed while they are in line for food distribution, and I condemn it,” he said.
He added that Iran and South Africa condemn the actions of the Zionist regime in Gaza and the West Bank, which are in line with the regime’s settlement expansion policies.
“For this reason, we filed a petition with the International Court of Justice to hold the perpetrators of genocide (in Gaza) accountable for their actions.”
He went on to say that there has long been mutual respect between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of South Africa, and “we seek to deepen relations in all areas, especially defense relations”.
