Mourning Ceremonies Planned in Qom on Martyrdom Anniversary of 11th Imam

IQNA – Mourning ceremonies marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hassan Al-Askari (AS) will be held across Iran, including in the holy city of Qom on Monday.

The homes of several religious figures and sources of emulation in Qom will host the religious rituals.

One of the ceremonies will take place at the home of the Shia religious authority Grand Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani.

It will feature elegy recitations and a speech by Hojat-ol-Islam Hashemi Hamedani.

Also, like previous years, Grand Ayatollah Hossein Vahid Khorasani will take part in a street walking procession in Qom marking the sad occasion.

Another mourning ceremony is also slated to be held by the office of Ayatollah Hadavi Tehrani with a speech by Hojat-ol-Islam Mirtebar.

The martyrdom of Imam Hassan Al-Askari (AS), the eleventh Imam, took place on the 8th of Rabi al-Awwal, 260 AH.

He lived in the city of Samarra, located in present-day Iraq, and spent most of his life under the strict supervision of the Abbasid Caliphs. The martyrdom of Imam Hassan Al-Askari (AS) is among the days of mourning in the Shia calendar.
