Saudi Arabia to Establish Permanent Museum on Hajj and Two Holy Mosques

The decision was reviewed at a meeting of the High Supervisory Committee for the “History of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques” project, Saudi media outlets reported on Sunday.

The session was chaired by Prince Faisal bin Salman, who is also chairman of the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) and a special advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

The museum will document the evolution of pilgrimage practices and the history of Islam’s holiest sites. It is expected to function as a knowledge hub, covering the rituals of Hajj and Umrah over the centuries as well as developments in their administration and services.

The initiative began as an academic reference project known as the “Encyclopaedia of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques.” It has since expanded into a broader national program, led by Darah in cooperation with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah through the Guests of God Service Programme.

At the same meeting, the committee confirmed that a forum titled “Historical Events in the Prophet’s Biography: Perspectives on Research and Documentation” will take place in Medina. The event will be held alongside the Umrah Forum.
