IQNA – The son of the late Egyptian Quran reciter Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, one of the most celebrated voices in Quranic recitation, passed away in Cairo on Friday, October 31, 2025.

The death of Essam Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, son of the late Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, was announced by his brother, Sheikh Yasser Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, head of the Cairo Reciters’ Syndicate.

In an official statement, Sheikh Yasser said:

“With hearts faithful to God’s will, we mourn our beloved Essam Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, who passed away this morning. May God forgive him, have mercy upon him, and grant him paradise.”

The funeral prayer was scheduled to be held after the Friday prayer at Mostafa Mahmoud Mosque in Mohandessin, followed by burial attended by family members and admirers of the renowned reciter’s family.

Egypt’s Minister of Religious Endowments, Osama Al-Azhari, extended his condolences to the family, praying for God’s mercy upon the deceased and patience for his relatives.

The Syndicate of Quran Reciters in Egypt also issued a statement mourning the loss and conveying condolences to the family, including Sheikh Tariq Abdul Basit Abdul Samad and Sheikh Yasser Abdul Basit Abdul Samad.

The late Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad remains an iconic figure in the Muslim world, known for his exceptional mastery of Quranic recitation and his lasting spiritual influence across generations.
