Qatar’s ministry of Awqaf and Islamic affairs has launched the specialized Quranic encyclopedia on the Islamweb website, an important step that strengthens the presence of Quranic sciences in the digital arena.
The ministry announced in a statement that this encyclopedia was prepared, compiled and edited by Sheikh Ahmed Issa Al-Masrawi, the former Sheikh-ul-Qurra (grand qari) of Egypt.
As a comprehensive scientific reference, this encyclopedia presents the precise Quranic science of recitation in a modern and systematic way that meets the needs of scholars, students, and enthusiasts of the Holy Quran at all levels.
This Quranic encyclopedia stems from the proven scientific fact that the Quranic recitations are multiple and authentic ways of pronouncing the Quranic words that have been narrated through authentic narrations from the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Scholars have unanimously agreed on their principles and rules and consider all authentic recitations to be valid for recitation as stated in the authenticated books on Quranic recitations.
This work combines narration and expertise in a balanced framework, aiming to simplify the scientific material for beginners without depriving specialists of the scientific depth they need. It also collects, categorizes, and presents this knowledge in an organized digital format that facilitates access.
The Encyclopedia of Quranic Readings and Sciences relies on rigorous scientific methods and benefits from the efforts and expertise of scholars of recitation, especially Sheikh Ahmad Isa al-Masrawi, whose extensive scientific experience has enriched the content of this book and refined its scientific approach.
Aiming to provide reliable material that combines authenticity and methodology, this book comprehensively examines the science of Quranic recitations. The encyclopedia begins by introducing the pioneers of the ten official Qara’at (readings), their narrators, and their unbroken chains of transmission. It then explains the principles and differences, elucidates the methods of transmission, and addresses major scientific issues related to Quranic recitations, such as the differences between the seven modes of recitation and the official recitations, as well as the most common transmissions in the Islamic world.

In addition, it acts as an open educational platform that can support academic studies, Quran memorization circles, and specialized scholarly research.
The encyclopedia covers a wide range of topics in this field, addressing recitation methods, chains of narration, rules of Tajweed, and differences between different recitations. It also includes commentaries on authoritative texts on Quranic recitation, along with scholarly documentation of the sources and principles that the discipline has relied on over the centuries.
The book has been praised by a number of authorities and those interested in Quranic sciences, and they consider this work a valuable addition to Quranic content in cyberspace and an important contribution to advancing scientific research in the field of Quranic recitations.
