Al-Azhar University is preparing to hold the second edition entitled “Quranic Qara’at (Recitations) and Integration of Linguistics and Sharia Knowledge; Institutional and Research Efforts” on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The conference will be held under the supervision of the Al-Azhar Islamic Center’s chief, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb, President of Al-Azhar University Salama Juma Daoud, and Mahmoud Al-Siddiq, Vice President for Higher Studies and Research at the university.

Ahmed Abdel Marzi, dean of the Tanta Quran Faculty said this conference is not a goal in itself, but a step on a long path and “a seed that we hope will bear fruit in the form of gardens of knowledge for generations.”

He added that through this international scientific forum, the faculty strives to be a fertile ground for experts and researchers in the science of Quranic recitations and, by integrating efforts, bring together ideas with the aim of serving the Book of God.

Abdel Marzi emphasized that the aim of this conference is to explain the systematic integration between Quranic recitations and the various branches of Arabic language sciences and Islamic Sharia sciences such as interpretation, hadith, jurisprudence and principles, in order to deepen the religious and linguistic understanding of the Quranic text and reveal its semantic and legislative richness.

“The Tanta conference also seeks to examine the scientific and educational achievements of established and modern Islamic institutions and specialized research centers in the service of recitations and encourage researchers to adopt interdisciplinary approaches that eliminate artificial barriers between disciplines.”

He went on to say that the conference pays special attention to the contemporary challenges facing the study and teaching of Quranic recitations and explores ways to use digital technologies and artificial intelligence in analyzing and presenting these recitations.

“It also aims to promote a comprehensive view of Quranic sciences and tradition and reconnect generations with their original intellectual heritage that combines the authenticity of narration (from narrative methodologies) with sound reasoning.”
