Mohsen Karami, a faculty member of the Islamic Azad University, made the remarks in a speech at a forum titled “The Holy Quran, the Highest Charter of Diplomacy and Convergence of Human Societies”, held in the international section of the 33rd Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition Friday night.
He emphasized that the Holy Quran is a universal book based on human nature, and its message is not limited to a specific ethnicity, religion, or geography, but rather addresses all humans.
Referring to Verse 64 of Surah Al Imran, he considered this verse a clear example of the Quran’s dialogue-oriented approach and said Quranic diplomacy is based on calling for common beliefs, mutual respect, and the denial of human domination over human beings, and can be the basis for convergence among followers of divine religions.
Stating that the Holy Quran is a book of life and social interaction, the scholar said violent perceptions of religion have nothing to do with the original teachings of the Quran, and using the Quran as a tool to justify extremism is a result of a misunderstanding of religious concepts.
Referring to the position of divine prophets in the Holy Quran, Karami stated, “The Quran’s extensive emphasis on divine prophets, especially Prophet Moses (AS) and Prophet Abraham (AS), indicates the unifying approach of this heavenly book and its effort to strengthen the bond between monotheistic religions.”
He also pointed out the need to strengthen empathy in the Islamic world and said Islamic countries need to increase internal cohesion and convergence before any effective global interaction, because the fundamental message of the Quran is a call for unity, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence among nations.
He further considered the role of correct teaching of Quranic teachings to be important in developing cultural and moral interactions among nations, emphasizing the need for deeper study of the Quran alongside specialized training.
