
The senators said in a joint statement that independent probes point to possible US involvement in the attack, Arabi24 reported.
If that is the case, they said, it would be one of the most severe cases of civilian casualties caused by a US military attack in the Middle East in decades.
They described such killing of students appalling and unacceptable under any circumstances, stressing that the US secretary of war must launch a full and impartial investigation into the incident.
Senators Brian Schatz from Hawaii, Patty Murray from Washington state, Jeanne Shaheen from New Hampshire, Jack Reed from Rhode Island, Mark Warner from Virginia, and Chris Coons from Delaware were among those signing the statement.
