Tarjoman Vahy Institute Publishes Quran Translations in 14 Languages

IQNA – A member of the Tarjoman-e Vahy Cultural Institute announced the publication of translations of the Holy Quran in 14 languages ​​by the institute.

Mustafa Naqdi told IQNA that expert translators who are fluent in the target language have done the translations.

These translations have been done with a Shia approach and away from the common mistakes in previous translations, he stated.

Referring to the history of the institution's activities since 1994, he said it was established with the aim of providing clear, accurate translations free from common mistakes in previous translations.

“Our emphasis is that the translations be done with a Shia perspective and by translators who have complete mastery of the source and target languages.”

He explained the achievements of this institute and said that so far, translations of the Quran have been published in English, French, Turkish, Azeri Turkish, Ottoman, Chinese, Japanese, Urdu, Russian, Georgian, Iraqi Turkish, Pashto, Rwandan and Balti.

The process of translating the Quran into several other languages ​​is also on the agenda, Naqdi noted.

He continued by mentioning the publication of the specialized journal of this institute and said, “The journal ‘Translator of Revelation’ is published bi-quarterly and includes the latest theories in the field of Quran translation literature in various languages. This journal contains articles by prominent professors and experts in this field.”

He also announced the existence of the specialized library of this institute with six thousand volumes of Quran translations in different languages.

“This library operates as a valuable treasure alongside the translation process and our translators benefit from its resources. Researchers can also use this collection for their research. In addition, an eight-volume collection containing all Persian translation articles published in Iran and the world from 1945 to 1993 has been compiled and printed by this institute.”

Naqdi concluded by stating that the Tarjoman-e Vahy Cultural Institute pursues its activities simultaneously in two offices in Tehran and Qom and is trying to take an effective step in providing accurate and Shia translations of the Holy Quran to the world by utilizing expert translators.
