IQNA – The Grand Mufti of al-Quds and the Palestinian Territories warned against distributing a copy of the Holy Quran that contains a typographical error in one of its verses.

Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, who is also the chairman of the Supreme Council for Fatwa, said the copy contains an error, Nabz reported.

He explained in a press statement that the error occurred on page 354, in Verse 33 of Surah An-Nur, where the word “Yughnihim” (He enriches them) is misspelled due to the absence of a dot under the letter “y”.

This is a typographical error that needs attention and correction, he said.

He noted that the edition was published by the Dar Ihyaa al-Turaht al-Arabi in Beirut, and stressed that such errors, even if unintentional, are very sensitive given the sanctity of the Holy Quran and the need to preserve its authenticity and integrity.

Sheikh Muhammad Hussein called on libraries, publishing houses and citizens who have copies of the edition to immediately submit them to the General Council of Fatwas so that the necessary measures can be taken in accordance with the established procedures and to ensure that its publication is stopped.

He stressed the importance of exercising the highest degree of care and scrutiny when printing copies of the Quran, especially given that some printing houses use rapid printing methods or reprints without sufficient editing, which can lead to errors that affect the text of the Quran.
