IQNA – A Lebanese Quran expert dismissed the anti-Iran stances of a Kuwaiti qari, saying they have nothing to do with Quranic teachings.

Kuwaiti qari Mishary al-Afasi’s recent remarks justifying the American-Zionist aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and criticizing Iran’s legitimate response to the aggression have drawn widespread condemnation.

Hussein Hamdan, a veteran Lebanese reciter who has served as a judge in many international Quran competitions, told IQNA in an interview that the recent positions of al-Afasi are satanic and have nothing to do with the Quran.

Hamdan highlighted Verse 47 of Surah Al-Ma’idah: “and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the transgressors.”

He said the Quran also has cursed some qaris, adding that the words of this Kuwaiti reciter do not please Allah, but rather please the oppressive rulers.

Regarding the impact of al-Afasi’s negative ideas and beliefs on the public opinion of the Islamic world, he said the ideas and beliefs of this reciter only affect those like him who sell their religion for worldly gain.

“But the wise blame him for his heinous and evil deeds,” he went on to say.

Asked about the duty of Quranic activists, reciters, and memorizers in the Islamic world regarding this deviation, Hamdan said the conscious Muslim community, Quranic activists, reciters and memorizers must emphasize that the Quran is a book of reflection, not just for recitation and beautiful voice and playing with vocal qualities.

“The message of the Quran is to put things in their correct context,” he emphasized.

Regarding the removal of this qari’s recitations from radio and television channels, the media and social networks, and the responsibility of the media in this matter, Hamdan said al-Afasi’s recitations should be removed from all radio and television channels so that society is not influenced by him and does not mistakenly believe that the essence of religion is only a beautiful voice.

Asked why someone like al-Afasi, who is famous for his beautiful voice, takes such a position, the Lebanese qari said his voice, which is famous for its mastery of letters and vocal lines, is like someone who has learned to speak but has ignored the boundaries of etiquette and morality.

Regarding the reaction of public opinion and Quranic activists in Lebanon to the statements of the Kuwaiti reciter, Hamdan said, “Undoubtedly, this reciter’s position will be met with rejection and ridicule from Quran reciters in Lebanon and throughout the Islamic world.”

He stressed that in order to benefit from the pure teachings of the Quran and prevent deviation, one must understand the Holy Quran in its true sense, both its outward and inward aspects. “As God Almighty says in Verse 24 of Surah Muhammad: ‘Is it that they do not think about the Quran or are their hearts sealed?’”

He also noted that the Holy Quran tells us the story of Balaam Ba’ura, a righteous and learned servant of the Bani Isra’il, whose prayer was answered but he chose the path of Satan, and Satan led him astray.
