IQNA – The head of the Palestinian Football Federation said efforts for the imposition of sanctions against the Israeli regime’s football federation will continue.

Palestinian Football Federation Jibril Rajoub refused to stand alongside the Israel FA’s vice-president, Basim Sheikh Suliman, in an awkward moment towards the end of the 76th FIFA congress after both men had been called to the stage in Vancouver by FIFA president, Gianni Infantino (April 30, 2026).

Jibril Rajoub referred to his recent refusal to shake hands with the representative of the Zionist occupation regime at FIFA, saying it reflects a political and moral approach.

He emphasized that what happened reflects the belief that normalizing sports with a party that justifies targeting Palestinian civilians is unacceptable.

Rajoub also said that signs of a kind of isolation around the Israeli representative have been observed in some circles, which indicates a gradual change in the international atmosphere, although it has not yet led to practical decisions.

He further emphasized that legal pursuits to suspend and impose sanctions against the Israeli football federation will continue until double standards in the international arena end.
