IQNA – The Israeli regime’s move to close the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Al Kkhalil (Hebron) is a flagrant violation of freedom of worship and the right of the Palestinian people, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas said.

In a press statement on Friday, Hamas condemned the move, saying it is a new crime and a blatant assault on one of the purely Islamic holy sites.

It is a flagrant violation of freedom of worship and the right of the Palestinian people to access their holy sites and practice their religious rituals, the movement said.

It warned against the escalation of Israeli enemy violations against Islamic holy sites, and its continued policies of Judaization and systematic tightening against the Palestinian people, as part of its ongoing attempts to impose new facts targeting the Arab and Islamic identity of the Ibrahimi Mosque and all holy sites.

“These aggressive and Judaization policies will not succeed in changing the identity of the Ibrahimi Mosque or undermining the right of our steadfast people in it. It will remain a purely Islamic mosque, and our people will continue to cling to their rights and constants and defend their holy sites, no matter the sacrifices.”

Hamas called on the international community, the United Nations, and its relevant institutions to take urgent and effective action to stop these serious violations, and to take deterrent measures against the fascist Zionist enemy government, which is intensifying its aggression on the land of Palestine, its people, and its holy sites.

It called on the Palestinian people in the West Bank in general, and in the city of Hebron in particular, to intensify their presence and Ribat (steadfastness) in the Ibrahimi Mosque, to head to it, and to confront all Israeli enemy plans aimed at Judaizing it and imposing control over it.
