IQNA – The secretary of the 7th International Quran Competition for Muslim Students emphasized efforts to introduce the Quranic character of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, in this edition of the contest.

Jalil Bayt Mashali

Speaking an interview with IQNA Jalil Bayt Mashali said, “We will make the most of this opportunity to introduce the martyred Leader’s Quranic character in a befitting manner, and this will be achieved in the form of holding workshops and expert meetings.”

The interview is as follows:

IQNA: First, please provide an explanation of the process of holding the competition so far.

One of the very good initiatives of the scientific and revolutionary institution of the Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR) in the field of the Holy Quran is the implementation of the International Quran Competition for Muslim Students. The executive affairs of the seventh edition have been progressing for more than a year. Recent events, the Twelve-Day War and the Ramadan War caused this process to be interrupted at times, but we made every effort to proceed in accordance with the predetermined implementation calendar.

The preliminary stage of this edition began with the presence of representatives from 76 countries, and currently, after passing the semi-final stage, 25 individuals have reached the final stage in the field of Quran recitation. Of the 45 works submitted to the secretariat in the field of technologies and general Quranic productions, after the evaluation of the jury, 10 works have been confirmed for the final stage. Twenty-six memorizers of the entire Quran also competed with each other in the semi-final stage, and the names of the memorizers who have qualified for the final stage will be announced soon.

IQNA: Do you plan to hold the final stage of this competition in person?

If conditions are suitable, we will hold the final stage in person, and otherwise, in cooperation with some Quranic institutions and, more importantly, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), we will design a new method using the virtual space, in which we will witness this stage being held in the form of a gathering program over a period of approximately one week.

IQNA: In the seventh edition, we are witnessing the addition of a new section. Explain more about this section.

In the past six editions, we witnessed competition in two disciplines: Quran recitation and memorization of the entire Quran. In this edition, considering the specific audience of this event and of course the wide range of activities of this group in new technological formats, we added the category of “Technology and General Productions of the Quran”, which is also close to the intellectual and mental space of the students, and out of the 45 works that reached this section, the top 10 works were introduced to the final stage for judging.

IQNA: From the overall comments of the jury members, it was concluded that many participants are not familiar with the regulations of these competitions, and therefore it is necessary for them to gain more knowledge about them in the form of briefing sessions. Has any provision been made for this?

Before the start of the competition, the regulations were shared in three languages: English, Persian, and Arabic on the competition’s information channels and platforms in cyberspace for the information of participants and other competition executives. Nonetheless, if the final stage is held in person, briefing sessions and workshops will be held on this issue, and if the competition is to be held virtually, content will be produced and shared before the start of the final stage to inform the competitors more.

IQNA: The International Quran Competition for Muslim Students has provided a unique capacity to explain and introduce the Quranic personality of the martyred Leader, who was also a great supporter of activists and people of the Quran. How will you make the most of this capacity?

Unfortunately, we lost the great Leader of the Islamic Ummah, who was the great standard-bearer in defending the holy Quran, during the Third Imposed War. Therefore, it is necessary to make the most of every opportunity to explain this pious personality, especially the Quranic aspects of his personality. This competition provides a suitable opportunity for this, and therefore we intend to address this issue in the form of meetings and workshops.
