Funeral Prayers Offered over Body of Martyred Leader at Imam Ali Shrine

IQNA – Funeral prayers were offered over the bodies of martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and his martyred family members at the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq, on Wednesday morning.

The bodies arrived at the holy shrine in the morning and were carried on the shoulders of Iraqis in a magnificent and sorrowful funeral ceremony, and prayers were offered over the holy bodies.

With the prayers, the historic funeral of the martyred Leader began in Iraq.

On Tuesday night, there was an official reception for the body of the martyred Leader at Najaf International Airport, where senior officials from Iran and Iraq, including Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Iraqi prime minister, paid tribute before the public farewell.

According to Iraqi media reports, Iraqi groups have continued to arrive in Najaf in large numbers to participate in the funeral ceremony.

Ayatollah Khamenei and four members of his family were martyred in a joint US-Israeli attack on his office and residence in Tehran on February 28.

The funeral in Iraq comes after two similar processions in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and in the central city of Qom.

His body is planned to be laid to rest on Thursday at the holy shrine of Imam Reza in his hometown of Mashhad.
