Lebanese political figures have condemned the Tuesday twin terrorist bombings in Beirut.

They said the terrorist attacks were aimed at Lebanon’s national unity and stability, Al-Manar website reported.

Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the attacks, ordering the Crisis Committee to hold an emergency meeting at the presidential palace to discuss the aftermaths of the attacks.

Lebanon's Prime Minister designate Tamam Salam also slammed the terrorist bombings, saying they were part of a series of terrorist crimes carried out against different parts of Lebanon.

He urged all Lebanese leaders to play their part in reducing tension in the country and steer Lebanon away from whatever threatens its stability and security.

Former premier Fouad Siniora was among other political figures who strongly censured the act of terrorism and called for those behind it to be identified and brought to justice.

Siniora extended condolences to the Lebanese nation and the families of the martyrs and prayed that the injured would recover soon.

The double attacks were carried out on Tuesday in Beirut’s southern neighborhood of Jinah, killing at least 23 people, including Iran’s cultural attaché to Beirut Hojat-ol-Islam Ebrahim Ansari.

The first explosion occurred when a bomber blew his explosives near the gate of the embassy, and the second blast happened just meters away when a car bomb went off.
