This year some 2400 school students will go on Umrah (minor Hajj) pilgrimage.

Head of the Committee for School Students Umrah Hajj made the remark in an interview with IQNA,  adding that they will be sent to the holy cities starting from February 16, 2014.

Davoud Roustayi added that 45000 students registered for Umrah of whom 2400 were selected for the spiritual trip.

He said the students will be sent to Umrah in 22 batches, adding that the last batch of student pilgrims will leave Iran for the holy cities on February 27, 2014.

According to Roustayi, the students will participate in educational workshops as well as other programs, including meetings with scholars during the trip.

Unlike Hajj pilgrimage that is performed in the month of Dhul Hajjm, Umrah can be undertaken by Muslims at any time of the year.
