Flowers were laid at the entrance of one of the the oldest mosques that was vandalized with swastika symbols in the Swedish capital of Stockholm on Monday morning. A handwritten letter was left at the entrance next to the flowers.
‘’Here is a flower for every hate crime. Any attack against you is an attack against Sweden,’’ the note said, underlining that Muslims in Sweden are part of Swedish society.
Thousands of people took to the streets in Stockholm’s suburb Karrtorp in late December last year in a rally against racism and neo-Nazism. The protests and the placement of flowers can be seen as an indication of a fight against racism among the Swedish population.
Sweden’s Islamic Association Chairman, Omer Mustafa shared a picture of the flowers placed in front of the mosque on his Twitter account. Mustafa said that racist attacks on a place of worship has resulted in more support and solidarity and commented that ‘’there hasn’t been a support like this before; this should be a great lesson to everyone.’’
