Speaking to IQNA, Majid Ghamas added that Iraq is in very serious and sensitive condition today and that is why the Shia source of emulation has issued the Fatwa (religious decree).
Ayatollah Sistani in a Fatwa on Friday called on Iraqi people to fight the Takfiri terrorists in the country.
He urged people to take up arms and defend their country against the terrorist militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
It came after the ISIL militants on June 10 took control of Mosul, which was followed by the fall of Tikrit, located 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of the capital, Baghdad. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced out of their homes since that time.
The ISIL militants have vowed to continue their raid toward the capital, Baghdad.
Mr. Ghamas said Ayatollah Sistani's Fatwa has created a wave of enthusiasm among the Iraqi youth to join the army to defend their country against terrorists.
He noted that both Sunni and Shia scholars and personalities have urged Iraqis to resist against the Takfiri terrorists and that scores of people have been flocking to recruitment centers to join the army in its fight against the ISIL extremists.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the ISCI representative saod some international and Arab world bodies including the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Arab League have expressed support for Iraq against terrorists but noted that it is not enough.
"These international organizations ought to hold emergency meetings to discuss the situation in Iraq," he said, adding that the threat of the ISIL would not be limited to Iraq but could spread to other countries in the region.
He said Iraq and its people are at the forefront of fighting terrorism, stressing that it is necessary to use every effort to tackle the terrorist threat.
Mr. Ghamas went on to say that the ISIL terrorists seek to foment discord among Sunnis and Shias in Iraq but their plot will be foiled given the alertness of the Iraqi nation and their resistance against the Takfiri militants.
