Apart from Ahmad Tirmizi, other male reciters were Harun Moos from South Africa, Syed Ghouse (India), Muhammad Rafique M. Siddique (Pakistan), Abubaker Mahmud Mohamed El Khuja (Libya), Alem Crnkic (Croatia), and Ahmad Abu Talep (Cambodia).
The female reciters were Mumi Kanlayanee Husna M. Sheerozee from Thailand, Zubejda Gobeljic (Bosnia-Herzegovina), and Zin Mar Htwe (Myanmar).
Thirty-eight reciters, including 15 women are taking part in the competition which started on Monday.
Twenty-two hafiz (male participants) and eight hafizah (female participants) are taking part in the inaugural hafazan category (Quran memorisation).
The male and female winners of the Quran recitation will each walk away with a gold ingot worth RM70,000 sponsored by the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YAPEIM), a trophy and RM40,000 cash.
In the hafazan category, the male and female winners will each receive RM30,000 cash and a certificate.
