A prominent Lebanese Quran expert urged that the category of interpretation be added to the International Quran Competition for Muslim Students.

Speaking to IQNA, Sheikh Ali Muhammad al-Muslimani said that in addition to memorization and recitation, the contest should include categories like Quran interpretation.
He reiterated that as well as reciting the Quran beautifully and memorizing the verses of the Holy Book, students should know about the Sha'an-e Nuzul (reason of revelation) and at least a little about the interpretation of the verses.
The Shia cleric further highlighted the importance of the Quran competition for Muslim students, which is biennially held in the Islamic Republic of Iran with the participation of university students from around the world, and said it helps to spread Quranic teachings and concepts among Muslim world students.
He added that the contest promotes Quranic activities and encourages students to develop a more profound connection with the Book of God.
Al-Muslimani urged that a women's section be added to the contest so that female students active in Quranic fields such as memorization and interpretation can also take part in the international event.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Lebanese Quran expert underlined the Quran competition's role in strengthening Islamic unity as it brings together young Shias and Sunnis from various countries.
The fifth edition of the International Holy Quran Competition for Muslims Students is scheduled to be held in Iran in January 2015 by the Iranian Academics' Quranic Activities Organization.
The Iranian cities of Isfahan, Tehran, Mashhad and Tabriz hosted the previous four editions of the international competition.
