A Malaysian lawmaker has proposed that the country develops the world's first and largest Al-Quran theme park, which he believes will draw in more tourists and bring blessings to the country.

Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said building the theme park would be more beneficial than the proposed RM30mil project to construct the world's second-largest Quran printing centre in Putrajaya, The Star reported.

"I propose for this allocation to be changed and used for the construction of such a theme park.

"In Malaysia, we already have Legoland, Sunway Lagoon water theme park and the Lost World of Tambun.

"It is now time that the entire world comes to Malaysia to learn the Quran in the form of a theme park," he said when debating the Budget 2015 speech in the Dewan Rakyat Tuesday.

Ahmad Marzuk also suggested that the theme park be divided into 114 parts to symbolize the 114 Suras (chapters) in the Quran.

He said he was confident that the PAS-led Kelantan government would be willing to offer land for the project.

To a question by Datuk Wan Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad (BN-Kuala Kangsar) on the cost of the proposed project, Ahmad Marzuk said that was not the immediate concern.

"Cost is not a matter. What is important is the green light by the government. There will surely be additional allocation from the government," he said.
