--Today, September 10, marks the anniversary of the demise of the late Ayatollah Taleghani, Quran interpreter and former Friday prayer leader of Tehran.
On this occasion, Hojat-ol-Islam Sayyed Mohammad Ali Ayazi talked to IQNA about Ayatollah Taleghani’s services to the holy Quran.

Hojat-ol-Islam Ayazi noted that Ayatollah Taleghani’s “Partovi az Quran” (a light beam form the Quran) interpretation was among the important and recognized contemporary exegeses of the holy Quran.

“The book has been well-received and reprinted times again,” he observed. “Ayatollah Taleghani employs an eloquent and interesting style in interpreting the verses of the Quran. He first gives a clear translation of the verse and then elaborates on the definitions of each word. He sometimes provides an etymology of the words, too. In some cases, he also refers to Hadiths in interpreting the verse.”

He described “Partovi az Quran” Exegesis as one inducing various social, political and economic aspects. “Another plus point of this exegesis is that it uses the language of the day which is simple, clear and attractive to the reader.”

Hojat-ol-Islam Ayazi regretted that Ayatollah Taleghani passed away before managing to complete his great work “Partovi az Quran” Exegesis.

The late Ayatollah Mahmoud Taleghani began giving his Quran interpretation courses in 1320’s (1940’s) at Hedayat Mosque in Tehran. He helped create a “return to the Quran” movement in Iran aimed at familiarizing the Iranian people with the teachings of the holy book and incorporating these teachings in their everyday life.

He embarked on writing the “Partovi az Quran” Exegesis while in prison for his anti-government activities before the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
