Egypt Int’l Quran Contest to Be Held in Memory of Abdel Fattah Shaasha’i

IQNA – This year’s international Quran competition of Egypt will be organized in memory of the late qari Sheikh Abdel Fattah Shasha’i.

The Egyptian ministry of Awqaf said the 33rd edition of the international Quranic event will be held in 2026 in the name of the renowned reciter of the Islamic world, Sheikh Abdel Fattah Shasha’i, El-Balad reported. 

The ministry also announced the dates for the written exams for the preliminary stage of the competition.

According to the ministry’s announcement, the intensive written exams will start on Monday, June 8, and run through June 18, at the Nour Mosque in the Abbasiya district of Cairo.

The ministry also published the names of the candidates who met the requirements for the written exam stage. This stage of the competition is for participants who have successfully registered and been accepted in accordance with the announced rules and conditions.

The ministry’s statement emphasized that the competition is held in order to support the memorizers of the Holy Quran, promote the Quranic culture, and encourage Quran activists to memorize, ponder, and understand the meanings of the divine verses.

The ministry has asked all provincial departments and agencies to inform eligible individuals of the time and place of the exams.

It is worth mentioning that various editions of the Egyptian International Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition have been held so far in honor of the memory and names of great Egyptian qaris such as Mahmoud Khalil Al-Husari, Abdul Baset Abdul Samad, and Shahat Muhammad Anwar.
