Pudong Mosque in Shanghai

The Pudong Mosque in Shanghai, China, was founded in 1935.
It was originally sited at No.16 Wu Jia Ting Jia, Pudong Avenue and was small–sized with only a few bungalows at that time. The mosque was still in a rough condition with dated facilities after its expansion in 1984. Many opportunities have been brought to the mosque since Pudding's development.
With support and funding from the government of Pudong new district, the mosque was rebuild and moved to its current site at No.375 Yuanshen Road. The foundation stone for the new mosque was laid in 1997 and then construction started in April 1998. The new mosque was completed and open to the public on March 28, 1999 (1419 Hijari) the CORBAN (Al-Adha) festival.
It occupies a land area of 1,665 square meters and a construction area of 2,283 square meters. The main building is three-storeyed and in Arabian style which is dignified, grand and bright. The architecture design of the main building adopted religious geometric patternes.
The building has a dome with a diameter of nine meters, at the top of which there is a crescent symbol at the height of 25 meters from the ground. The three small domes on the left and right side are placed orderly to set each other off. The southern azan tower is about 40 meters high, which pierces into the sky spreading strong Islamic cultural atmosphere.
Located in the Pudong new district the front line in China's reform and opening, the Pudong mosque is full of vitality and hope. There has been an endless stream of Muslims from China and oversea countries coming either to pray or visit, which makes the mosque an important window to welcome domestic and oversea Muslims.
