Imam Musa Sadr and his two companions who went missing after a trip to Libya in 1978, are alive, a Lebanese MP said.
Speaking to Kuwaiti daily Al-Nahhar, Hassan Yaqub said all the reports pointing to the martyrdom of Imam Musa Sadr and his companions Sheikh Muhammad Yaqub and Abbas Badreddine are unfounded.
He said he has credible information and clues suggesting that the three are alive.
Hassan Yaqub said those who are not happy with the freedom of Lebanon and conspire to divide the country have been involved in the abduction of Imam Musa Sadr.
A Lebanese delegation headed by the country’s foreign minister visited Libya last week to discuss with Libyan officials the fate of Imam Musa Sadr and his companions.
Imam Musa Sadr, accompanied by Sheikh Muhammad Yaqub and Abbas Badreddine travelled to Libya in 1978 to meet with Muammar Gaddafi but the three went missing in Libya and their fate still remains unknown. While there have been conflicting reports about what happened to the three, none of the reports have been confirmed by Sadr’s family.
