Winners of 29th Int’l Quran Contest Awarded

Qasem Moghaddami and Hossein Mo’tamedi, both from the Islamic Republic of Iran, came first in the categories of recitation and memorization of the 29th International Quran Competition in Tehran.
The winners were announced in a ceremony held Friday night at Tehran’s Milad Tower.
The ceremony began with recitation of verses from the holy Quran by Qasem Moghaddami and followed by a speech by Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani.
Then Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mohammadi, head of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, gave a report on organizing the 29th edition of the competition.
Later, winners of the competition were announced and received their awards.
In the recitation category Qasem Moghddami from Iran came first and Ezzat Al-Seyyed Rashed from Egypt, Mohammad Salman Ali from Bahrain, Abd-ol-Rahman Sabreddin from Indonesia and Najm Al-Hassan from Bangladesh won the second to fifth titles, respectively.
In the category of memorization of the holy Quran Hossein Mo’tamedi from Iran won the top position while Ein-ol-Arefin from Bangladesh, Abdollah Omar Hamed from Libya, Mahdi Khayrolbalil from Sudan and Abd-ol-Malek Mohammad Rahim from Afghanistan came second to fifth, respectively.
Ayatollah Amoli Larijani, Iran's Judiciary Chief, Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Ali Larijani, Iran's Majlis speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Tehran’s mayor, and Hojat-ol-Islam Ali Mohammadi were present at the award ceremony of the event.
Islamic Republic of Iran’s 29th International Quran Competition was held in Tehran from June 17-22 with the participation of some 100 representatives of 65 Muslim and non-Muslim countries.
