Culture Minister Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini said efforts for setting a day as the world Quran day were not successful.
He made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that attempts were made to draw a wave of condemnations over the desecration of the Quran by setting a world Quran day and the issue was even brought up at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation but they did not get much result.
Dr Hosseini underlined, however, that the Holy Quran has always had the top priority in the country and that what matters is making endeavors to promote the Quran as the best and most influential book instead of setting one day as the day of the Quran.
He also said that the ministry attaches great importance to Quranic activities and that is why the status of the ministry’s center for Quranic activities has been elevated to a deputy.
Dr Hosseini went on to say that organizing Quran exhibitions and supporting grassroots Quranic institutes are but a few examples of the ministry’s efforts to promote the Quran.
