Muslim women from mosques around Munyoyo, a Kampala suburb, held a Quran recitation Competition on Saturday with the aim of teaching believers how to read the Holy Book.
They came from five mosques under the Rural Women Development Association and included
Kiruddu, Hudaiya, Katuso, Munyonyo and Mawanga that hosted the event.
The chairperson of the association, Hajat Zaitun Nsubuga, said they came up with the idea because most women did not get chance to study the Koran when they were young.
“We want the women to know their religion and improve on the recitation of the Quran since it is always men who get the chance to attend lessons,” she said.
Imam Kasozi, the Imam of Mawanga Mosque and an international charity organization each gave the association 30 Qurans.
