Tunisia’s Maqrabiya news agency has published a report about the rising activities of Salafist groups in the country, saying Tunisians are weary of these activities.
According to the report, Salafists have exploited the freedom seen in Tunisia since the victory of the revolution to attack mosques, religious sites and holy places in the North African country, icilome website reported.
In their latest extremist move, Salafsits have recently attacked a girls school.
A recent poll shows that some 75 percent of Tunisians are worried about the rise in the activities of Salafist groups and consider their actions as a threat to the country’s Islamic identity.
A young Tunisian told Maqrabiya that extremist views that reject cultural diversity are growing and this has worried many people in the society.
A school teacher in the capital Tunis said the presence of such groups is a serious danger for the government and the society because Salafists are trying to spread their baseless and extremist views in the name of Sharia.
