The main tactic of the US and Zionist regime against the Islamic Awakening is spreading conflicts between Shia and Sunni Muslims.
Member of the Assembly of Experts and International Relations Deputy of the Supreme Leader’s Office Ayatollah Mohsen Qomi made the remark at a conference in Tehran titled “Islamic Awakening, Future Perspectives and Iran’s Presidential Elections”.
He said the Zionist regime and the United States think there is a potential in Shia-Sunni clashes that should be best exploited.
“We believe anyone, no matter what Islamic school of thought he adheres to, who provokes sectarian tension, is acting in the interests of America and the Zionists.”
Ayatollah Qomi referred to the developments in the Muslim world and compared the situation in Syria and Bahrain.
He said in Bahrain, where Shia Muslims make up 75 percent of the population, the majority of the people are against the regime and demonstrate their opposition peacefully but in Syria those fighting the government have commanders al coming from other countries.
The member of the Assembly of Experts added that in Syria the government seeks dialogue but the opposition groups only know weapons. “In Bahrain, however, the opposition calls for dialogue and the government shows no interest in dialogue.”
He regretted that the United Nations’ Security Council has held tens of sessions on Syria but none about the plight of the Bahraini people.
