The 2nd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue will be held in Baku, capital-city of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on 29 May-1 June 2013, under the theme, “Living together peacefully in a diverse world”.
The Forum will see the participation of some world political leaders, international and regional organizations, representatives of the private sector, civil society organizations, youth organizations, artistic institutions, audio-visual and written media and international institutions.
Participants will examine the most efficient ways to enhance dialogue and understanding among cultures. The program of the Forum includes a series of plenary and workshop sessions, including a ministerial meeting. These sessions will deal with the promotion of tourism and culture, role of urban policies in preserving and promoting cultural diversity, strengthening the role of civil society to promote intercultural dialogue, diversity and inclusion, and building intercultural competences.
As part of the Forum, ISESCO, in cooperation with the government of Azerbaijan, will organize a workshop session on “Intercultural dialogue: faith and science” during which ISESCO will present a new study titled, “Islamic perspectives on modern science: introduction to debates between religion and science” which was carried out by a team of Muslim scholars who sought to tackle the issue of faith in relation to modern scientific researches. Through organizing this workshop session, ISESCO aims to stress the necessary contribution of modern science to promoting intercultural and interfaith dialogue.
