Speaking to Russia’s Interfax news agency, he said, “We are not defending ourselves only but the whole orient,” Al-Alam news network reported.
He said some of the elements fighting Syria’s government have come from places like Kyrgyzstan, Chechnya, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan.
“These elements do not only target Muslims or Christians only but anyone who is not siding with the West. It is because the institutions that have used them and organized them are in London or New York.”
Hassoun said these elements who have come from former Soviet republics, after returning to their homeland will have been trained in terrorism not in medicine or engineering or religious sciences.
He underlined that people should be made aware of Wahabism so that they can decide to boycott it. “Wahabism is not just seen among Muslims but among some Christians as well.”
The Syrian Mufti went on to say that Wahabsim has three pillars, namely intellectual dogmatism, holding others in contempt, and considering oneself as the salvaged sect.
