He said he had confidence in the commitment shown by the Malaysian government in applying the concept at all levels of management and administration.
It is important to apply the concept if we want to create a balance in building a more harmonious integration in a society with diverse culture, race and religion, said the ruler when opening the international-level Quran Recital at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) Saturday night.
Sultan Muhammad V, who is also the Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong, said the 'moderation' concept should continue to be applied in government policies, as well as the daily lives of Muslims.
He also expressed the need for the learning of hadith to be enhanced, including at educational centers and through research.
He said with such efforts, knowledge on the hadith would flourish in the society.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
The sultan also said that social problems, like moral decadence, violence and corruption, were the main symptoms for the lack of divine guidance in life.
Meanwhile, Jamil Khir in his speech said every individual should understand the meaning and concept of moderation in Islam, and to contribute to the success of uniting Muslims.
A total of 80 participants, representing 49 countries, have confirmed their participation in the reciters' assembly.
A reciter from Jordan, Ibrahim Naim Rizik Al-Dardasawi and a reciter from Bangladesh, Tahmina Akter, recited the Quran Saturday night.
