The European Union’s move on Monday, July 22, to add Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations has drawn extensive condemnation.
EU foreign ministers agreed in Brussels on Monday to add the Lebanese resistance movement to the list of terrorist organizations.
At the same time, they have highlighted their willingness to continue dialogue with all Lebanese political groups including Hezbollah that plays a major role in the country.
The EU’s attempts to put pressure on Hezbollah for what it considers the group’s involvement in terrorism come despite the fact that some EU member states are among the main supporters of terrorist groups in Syria.
Meanwhile many individuals and institutions have censured the move as a dangerous step.
In Lebanon, senior cleric Allameh Sheikh Afif Nablusi underlined that blacklisting Hezbollah will not damage the group’s value and reputation.
“Hezbollah has always been a genuine and noble resistance movement that has defended and will continue to defend Lebanon against attacks by the Zionist regime.”
He said the EU’s attempt will fail to bring any changes to the stance of Hezbollah against the aggressions of the Zionist regime.
Nablusi also said that despite all the accusations and lies, the resistance movement will use its power only to defend Lebanon.
The Italy-Arab States Friendship Center also condemned Brussels’ move and described it as dangerous.
The center in a statement said the measure was an attempt to justify Israeli aggressions, its continued occupation and its violation of the rights of Palestinians.
It said the center is proud to have close and constructive ties with Hezbollah and will confront those who want to distort the image of the resistance movement.
The Italy-Arab States Friendship Center said the move will only encourage Israel to continue its policy of oppression and aggression.
The center also reiterated its solidarity with the Lebanese people and their heroic resistance against the Zionist regime.
Deputy Head of Shia High Council of Lebanon, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, also rapped the blacklisting of Hezbollah and said it indicated the EU’s submission to the Zionist regime.
He said the resistance movement is not a terrorist organization but defends Lebanon against the Zionist terrorists.
